Deadline Approaching for SHRM Certification

Current PHR/SPHR/GPHR/IPMA-CP designees, 12/31 Deadline to add new SHRM Certification at no cost to you!

Time is running out!  Did you know that you can add the new SHRM Certification to your existing professional credentials at no cost, and you do NOT have to give up your current HR generalist certification(s)?  It is an easy process of reviewing a short (one-hour) webinar (not an exam!), and you can contact Shelly Trent, SHRM Field Services Director, at if you have questions.  Just follow the steps below to earn your new SHRM Certification – December 31, 2015, is the absolute deadline to take advantage of the online Pathway process.  There will be no extensions!  If you have not completed the Pathway by the end of the year, your only option to obtain the new certification will be to sit for the exam and pay the exam fee.

Step 1   Go to using Chrome as your browser (Firefox and Explorer won’t work)

Step 2   Create an account and select “Online Tutorial Pathway”

Step 3   Affirm that you hold a valid/current HR generalist credential (such as PHR, SPHR, GPHR, IPMA-CP)

Step 4   Enter your current certification details (certification name, issue date, and expiration date).  If you do not know the dates, go to the website of your certifying agency.  Your certification start date must be prior to 1/31/15.  If you are “lifetime” certified, use 1/5/2015 as the start date and 1/5/2025 as the end date.

Step 5   Agree to abide by the SHRM Code of Ethics

Step 6   Check your email to see that you have registered.  Visit and use your email address and last name (with first letter capitalized) as your login. 

Step 7   Access and complete the Online Tutorial focusing on the SHRM Competency Model via the link sent to you.  You can print your results.

Step 8   Receive your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP once you complete the pathway, and begin a three-year recertification cycle.
