HR Specialist

Job Summary/Objective:

Indiana University Northwest is currently seeking applicants for a Human Resources Specialist to provide HR Support for the Office of Human Resources.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The HR Specialist will work with the Director of Human Resources, to build strong working relationships on campus. He or she will work with key administrators to ensure recruiting efforts are aligned with the strategic priorities of the IU Northwest campus and Indiana University. He or she will assist in staff recruitment and transfers, interviewing/hiring process, promotions, resolving discipline/grievance problems, corrective action and termination process. This position will be responsible for the implementation of an efficient, effective and creative full-cycle recruitment process for staff. He or she will be accountable for developing recruitment strategies, candidate sourcing, advertisement consultation, diversity outreach, resume vetting, and candidate screening/interviewing. Manage and administer FMLA leave process for Support and Professional Staff employees responsible for timely and accurate approval, denial and or follow- up on all FMLA request and any questions regarding the FMLA process. Consult and provide guidance to managers and employees regarding benefits, employee relations, performance management, policy and procedure. The HR Specialist will represent and Act on behalf of Director of HR exercising judgment to make operational and procedural decisions, to resolve issues with internal or external constituents.

Successful candidates would be those with experience practicing HR functions in a university/college setting. Demonstrated ability to be the “go-to” person in the division for HR direction. Must be able to work independently, understand needs of the campus and offer solutions by working collaboratively with key decision makers. Be able to multitask and shift work to focus on priority projects with short deadlines. Should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong, organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field and 1-2 years of experience in a progressive HR Generalist role preferably in Higher Education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master degree and or PHR certification preferred.
