JOB TITLE:                Benefits Administrator

DEPARTMENT:        Human Resources

This vacancy resides at our Purdue University Northwest - Westville, IN campus.

Essential Duties:

  • Act as liaison with medical providers, insurance carriers, retirement plan vendors and Purdue West Lafayette benefits staff to implement and review program changes and to troubleshoot insurance, disability and workers compensation problems for employees, retirees and their dependents.  Assist employees with various medical reimbursement accounts including Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts.
  • Manage leaves programs including FMLA, workers compensation, short and long term disability.  Utilize leave tracking databases and FMLA workbench in SAP. Run reports as required to calculate leave and FMLA balances. 
  • Conduct new employee benefit orientations, organize/promote/facilitate benefit enrollment and education sessions.  Assist employees with benefit enrollments and explain benefit options to terminating employees.
  • Provide advice and counsel to employees and supervisors on leave policies, FMLA, retirement options, disability insurance, workers compensation, medical insurance, COBRA options, EAP programs and other employee benefit programs and University policies and procedures.
  • Manage the onboarding and new hire process for benefit eligible staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to ensure employees are fully informed of their benefits - provide in-services to employees regarding benefit changes as needed.
  • Run and provide ad hoc reports as requested. Serve as HIPAA liaison officer for PNW.  Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.  Three years professional work experience in employee benefits administration.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Good analytical, prioritization, decision making and attention to detail skills.  Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.  Experience with an HRIS system preferred.  Must possess strong customer service skills.  Ability to work independently and take initiative.  Must be flexible and have the ability to navigate change in a fast paced environment.
